Aweekstweets February 1-9 2014: the week I atoned for all sins ever committed with big data

Holy crap! Did I really pump out 263 tweets since th last Aweekstweets? I think a ton of those were tweetchat retweets, so those don't count

I was thinking of changing the name of my #IBMDataMag column to "Evangelytics." But that's too pretentious. Maybe "A Little Dab o' Data."

 Retweeted by jameskobielus

A8: #bigdatamgmt Ask yourself whether your #EDW is capable of unstructured, low-latency, & petabytes. If not, consider hybrid infra.

A8: #bigdatamgmt Evaluate whether in fact you ALREADY are hybrid. Are some dev sandboxes already #Hadoop? Are some marts already #in-memory?

A8: #bigdatamgmt Ask if current #bigdata platform is optimized 4 every use case, function, & deployment role. It probably isn't. Go hybrid!

A7: #bigdatamgmt Hybrid is driving #bigdata industry convergence around common #SQL, common semantic abstractions, etc.

A7: #bigdatamgmt Hybrid is the present of #bigdata as well as the future. Many established #IBM customers have already implemented it.

A2: #bigdatamgmt Another trend driving hybrid #bigdata is maturation of innov approaches--#Hadoop, in-mem, #NoSQL---as they prove value

A2: #bigdatamgmt Another trend driving hybrid #bigdata is #DW modernization thru supplementary DBs, precluding need 4 forklift upgrades

A2: #bigdatamgmt What's driving adoption of hybrid #bigdata archs is need 4 scale, perf, & function benefits from fit2purpose platforms

A1: #bigdatamgmt For #datawarehousing, hybrid arch might supplement #RDBMS (hub) with #Hadoop for staging & #in-memory for fast query.

A1: #bigdatamgmt The opposite of hybrid architectures are homogeneous #bigdata environments built on just one type of data platform.

A1: #bigdatamgmt Hybrid architectures leverage #EDW #Hadoop #in-memory #NoSQL and/or #streaming platforms each for specific functions

A1: #bigdatamgmt Hybrid #bigdata architecture uses two or more distinct fit-to-purpose data platforms for complementary roles.

A4: #bigdatamgmt Complexity is challenge when go beyond homogeneous #bigdata. Hybrid simplicity needs unified virtualizn, metadata, tools

@IBMbigdata @SQLJon A3: #bigdatamgmt Hybrid won't necessarily increase time to insight. You have to optimize hybrid for speed to get that

@Natasha_D_G @timoelliott A3: Hybrid puts #EDW as hub of data governance, quality, MDM..but not necessarily of other functions

A3: #bigdatamgmt Adv of hybrid is platform optimization 2 specific roles, while maintain seamless interop via common tools, metadata, etc

A2: #bigdatamgmt Hybridization is driving #DW evolution, bringing innovative techs (e.g. MapReduce, in-mem) into core DW.
