Started at mock folk, moved to SCTV, then Hendrix, then Beatle, then sequed to Gordon Lightfoot. That was a pleasant association train.
Lightfoot's wobbly baritone is distressingly easy to imitate. Absolutely love his ability to invest his songs with deep authenticity.
BTW, I'm big Lightfoot fan. Saw him ages ago @ Pine Knob north of Detroit. Here's him with Johnny Cash in '69 (youtu.be/2YyE7cBy7AE)

Here's Hendrix' actual performance on that Dick Cavett show (youtu.be/J7d36Fo6iC0)
Hearing Jimi Hendrix speak, you realize that Graham Nash wasn't kidding. Hendrix was nothing like the wildman you'd expect from his music.
Fairly awesome, in the 1969 cultural context, to realize that Cavett had Hendrix on the show and treated him like a grownup.
"Jimi Hendrix on the Dick Cavett Show" (youtu.be/s_IaCLTdWIc) JK--Actually, this is the real thing. Totally cool interview.

"Avoid vendor lock-in"? Key #Hadoop best practice? In theory, but infeasible. Unless go pure Apache, every user confronts forks in roadmap
Why doesn't Google acquire a #Hadoop distro/integration/tool vendor? Will it? Will Facebook? Will LinkedIn? Will Twitter?
#MapReduce is core to #Hadoop. Does your solution execute MapReduce models? In a distro? In the data integration layer? Somewhere else?
Who holds the patent on patent leather?
#forrester Because open-source IT-vendor biz models hinge on differentiation: of community codebases & of committer knowhow
BTW, re any open source distro in a community environment, one might regard a major committer as equivalent to a vendor of that distro
Lady at Harborcourt hotel front desk asked if my sleep habits have adjusted. I say they only adjust when I'm back home. On road todo es loco
Just defining #Hadoop in crisp solution-oriented sense without nailing it too tightly to any one subproject's current incarnation is tricky
RT @kexpplaylist #kexp Pink Moon by Nick Drake from Pink Moon JK--Almost feels like San Francisco song. An incredibly romantic looking city
I also think it's important to layer the #Hadoop specs: modeling, devel, schema, ingest, storage, execution, aggreg, query, access, & mgmt
I think the notion of a "MapReduce-enabled" solution--distro, data integration, DBMS, etc.--is key. MapReduce is core of the core.
What the industry thinks of as the core #Hadoop is to some degree what's listed at bit.ly/229KBJ , but some of those are non-core
What the industry thinks of as " #Hadoop " is a melange of Apache Hadoop & non-Hadoop Apache projex + vendor-proprietary extensions/specs
Wow. The range of #Hadoop solution providers & approaches make this a tough call. Still reviewing inclusion criteria. Thanks 4 the comments!

Dinner with @sfwriter aka Rachael King, Bloomberg Business Week. Big Data, #Hadoop....and some apricot ice cream thing for dessert. Cool.
@datameer Short answer: Oracle will be done when they own everything.
@ryanprociuk For #Hadoop not to devolve into a "boil the cloud" initiative, Apache community needs to start thinking of bounding the effort
@ryanprociuk It's meaningful/useful to talk about "Big Data" maturity roadmap, with "that's done" milestones that involve #Hadoop evolution
@datameer Oracle is a vendor, not a project.
What's the deal with congestion on 101 this week? Some say it's BART station closures. Some say early start to fall semesters. What gives?
Question for entire #Hadoop community/ecosystem: When will #Hadoop be "done," in terms of specifying feature-complete "stack" & interfaces?
